EAL Staff: Miss Catt

We provide tailored learning support for pupils whom English is not their first language.

As our school expands, so does the need to support the increasing number of families speaking English as an Additional Language.

The children are supported in their speaking and listening, writing and grammar acquisition. They work in small groups, or on a one to one basis, improving their language skills using a wide selection of activities, games and writing exercises.

These interventions are tailored to the individual needs of the child and the activities aim to reflect the topics of each year group’s curriculum.

In addition, teachers also receive in class support and further ideas of how to help their children during lesson time.

We are also currently developing a number of projects, aiming to expand home school links.

These include:

  • Parent/Carer mid week coffee mornings – the chance to meet other parents and have an informal chat over hot drinks and cakes!

  • Parent/child home language reading afternoons at Gorringe Park’s school library.

  • Increasing the range of bilingual books available in the school library.

  • Establishing a network of parent volunteer translators and interpreters to support families speaking home languages.

Please look out for further details of these and other ventures coming soon.

We are continually striving to provide the best service for your children to advance their English language skills and promote home languages.  Please contact Miss Catt via the school office if you require further assistance.
